Veragua Rainforest Full Day Tour

The Veragua Rainforest is a nature reserve, adventure park and research station for the Costa Rican National Biodiversity Institute (INBio).  With 1300 hectare (3200 acres) of protected forest the   Veragua Rainforest offers visitors an exciting and educational opportunity to experience the majestic Caribbean Rainforest.  Located 1 hour from Limon and 3 hours from San Jose the Veragua Rainforest provides a buffer to Central Americas largest conservation area the La Amistad National Park Costa-Rica Panama.  For as much as we know about tropical rainforests there is much we are still learning, in fact the INBio lab on average discovers a new species every day!

Veragua allows visitors to learn from their world class exhibits and naturalist guides but it also enables people to experience the beauty of the rainforest both from the canopy level as well as throughout the extensive trail system. The Veragua Tram is a silent Gondola that transports visitors to the Trail of the Giants path where there are very large old growth trees, some over 300 years old. Visitors also have the opportunity to have a full day Veragua experience and do a zip line canopy tour, the most thrilling way to enjoy the tropical rainforests.

Full Day Tour Includes:
Naturalist Guide, Rainforest Tram, Trail of the Giants, Puma Waterfall trail, visit to the INBio research station, Hummingbird Garden, Frog Habitat, Butterfly Habitat, Reptile exhibit, and lunch.

Borinquen Adventure Day

The tour begins with a horseback ride up mountains and through plains. As you ascend you’ll enjoy fantastic views of Guanacaste’s Pacific coastline and the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano. Following this portion, you’ll get geared up and prepare for your canopy tour. Accompanied by professional guides, this tour will have you flying high through the treetops and zipping across canyons. There are ten cables to ride, and at one point you’ll even cross paths with a large and impressive waterfall. This is an excellent location to take pictures or cool down along the pool’s crystal-clear waters.

Next, you’ll be treated to a delicious lunch at Borinquen’s restaurant. Their carefully selected menu, drawing off both local and international traditions, will satiate your hunger and help you regather your energy following the canopy tour.

The final activity is undoubtedly the most relaxing – you’ll finish off your journey with a soak in Borinquen’s geothermal hot springs. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of Costa Rica’s wilderness, any tension that may have developed while traveling will easily melt away while soaking in the springs.

What to Bring: swimming suit, warm clothing, hiking/running shoes, sandals, change of clothing, binoculars, camera, sunscreen, money, and hat.

Tour Includes: horseback riding, canopy tour, lunch, hot springs, water, guide, transportation, and entrance fees.

Pacific Rainforest Tranopy Tour

Originally created to educate visitors of the importance of tropical forests and habitats, the Aerial Trams allow guests to view the 222 acres (90 ha) of tropical rain forest from an entirely different perspective. The safe, open-air gondolas have seating, roofs and are great for spotting elusive bird species. Expect to get sneak-peeks of a 40 foot waterfall and views of the Pacific coastline.

The zip lines include 10 cables and 15 platforms with five of the 10 cables more than 600 feet long. This combination tour includes a visit to the heliconia garden, snake exhibit and an expert naturalist guide.

It is recommended for guests to bring a light-weight rain jacket, binoculars, and wear closed-toed shoes.

Selvatura Canopy Tour and Supension Bridges

he Canopy Tour
Selvatura's outstanding canopy tour has the longest cables in Costa Rica and is the only one truly immersed in virgin forest. The tour is made up of 15 cables and 18 viewing platforms, traversing over two miles of forest and combining the thrill of the zip line with a unique perspective of the tree top canopy.

After an initial introduction to the safety equipment, visitors are fitted with the highest quality harnesses by professional guides. Soon after, riders will begin their flight through the forest.

For the real adrenaline junkies, the Selvatura Canopy Tour includes an optional
Tarzan Swing, a high security rope swing that launches you right into the forest for the ultimate Costa Rican adventure.

Visitors are advised to wear long pants, closed-toed shoes and to bring rain gear just in case.

The tour lasts between 2 and 2.5 hours. It is suitable for anyone over the age of 4, but for safety reasons, a weight restriction of 280lbs and maximum waist width of 120cm apply.

Treetop Suspension Bridges
The Tree Top walkway is the ideal cloud forest experience for those who wish to explore the beauty of the canopy at their own pace and appreciate the incredible array of vegetation and exotic bird life that the region has to offer.

The walkway consists of 8 suspension bridges connected by trails covering 1.9 miles (3km). The bridges vary from 150ft (50m) to 500ft (170m) in length and are suspended at heights ranging from 36ft (12m) to 180ft (60m). At almost 5ft (1.5m) wide, the bridge system is the widest and sturdiest in Costa Rica.

Visitors have the option of taking a self-guided treetop tour, or of joining a guided Natural History Tour. All guides are bilingual and professionally trained. Visitors will learn about the mammals, birds and plant life - particularly bromeliads, epiphytes and ferns – living in this unique eco-system, as well as hearing some of the fascinating cultural history of the region.

Guided tours can be arranged for large groups by prior reservation only.

The hanging bridges can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages and physical conditions. Tours last up to 2 hours. Again, it is recommended that visitors bring long pants, suitable shoes and waterproof jackets.
