Winter in Costa Rica, November, December and January.

During the United States’ winter, Costa Rica experiences some of its best weather of the yearjust in time for the Christmas holidays. The rainy season is officially over in most of the country, and the climate is cooler and less muggy.

The coolest months of the year are November, December and January. Costa Rica's  average annual temperature is around 21 to 27 degrees Celsius or 70 to 81 degrees Fahrenheit. The weather is perfect all year, except when it rains. But is considered a Rain Forest. The rain does bring down the temperature But it doesn't drop below 60 degrees. 

Christmas Holidays: During Christmas Day and the week after December 25, the all of Costa Rica erupts in celebration: fireworks, fruits and festivals. Many Tico children believe in Santa Claus, anticipating the magical arrival of his gifts under their Christmas tree.


The low season, or winter in Costa Rica has been dubbed the “Green Season” by the tourism industry because that makes a better first impression than "rainy".  Veteran Costa Rica travelers know that this time of year doesn't need a special moniker to make it appealing; prices are halved, crowds are gone, and while the rain forested slopes of the mountains may be getting drenched, perfect sunny days at the beach are the norm.


There is no real summer or winter in Costa Rica and the rainy season here lasts from May to November, with the months of December through April having little to no rain and September and October being the heaviest rain period. While the average rainfall in the country is around 100 inches.
